B. Ma.<br \/>\nSiete tutti invitati a partecipare.<\/p>\n<p>Qui di seguito un abstract sul tema trattato:<br \/>\nNetwork neutrality and the role of regulation on the<br \/>\nInternet have been heavily debated in recent times. Among the<br \/>\nvarious definitions of network neutrality, we focus on the one that<br \/>\nprohibits paid prioritization of content. We develop a model of the<br \/>\nInternet ecosystem in terms of three primary players: consumers,<br \/>\nISPs, and content providers. We analyze this issue from the point<br \/>\nof view of the consumer and target the desired system state that<br \/>\nmaximizes consumer utility. By analyzing various structures of an<br \/>\nISP market, we obtain different conclusions on the desirability of<br \/>\nregulation.We also introduce the notion of a Public Option ISP, an<br \/>\nISP that carries traffic in a network-neutralmanner.We find: 1) in<br \/>\na monopolistic scenario, network-neutral regulations might benefit<br \/>\nconsumers, however the introduction of a Public Option ISP is<br \/>\neven better as it aligns the interests of the monopolistic ISP with<br \/>\nthe consumer utility; and 2) in an oligopolistic scenario, the presence<br \/>\nof a Public Option ISP is again preferable to network-neutral<br \/>\nregulations, although the presence of competing nonneutral ISPs<br \/>\nprovides the most desirable situation for the consumers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gioved\u00ec 28 maggio, alle ore 12:00 presso l&#8217;aula R3 dell&#8217;Edificio di Ingegneria dell&#8217;Informazione, si svolger\u00e0 un interessante seminario The Public Option: A Nonregulatory Alternative to Network Neutrality, tenuto dal Prof. Richard T.
